Decorative Wire Mesh for Wine Storage
Wine is an art and a science. Everything from the glass displaying it to the music playing in the background can influence the drinker’s perception of the wine. With such multisensory effects, it’s no surprise that business owners and homeowners go to great lengths to create the ideal atmosphere for enjoying wine and other types of alcohol. One of the most perceptible changes you can make is to the environment’s appearance.
Decorative wire mesh is an excellent addition to commercial bars and home bars or kitchens, adding form and function to either location. This versatile material makes a perfect choice for improving the ambiance and helping you create the ideal setting for tasting wine or entertaining.
Using Decorative Wire Mesh for Bars
Decorative wire mesh comes in a wide range of styles and colors, making it an excellent material for creating different atmospheres to suit commercial bars’ needs. Whether you’re looking for ornate and complex or simple and sleek, wire mesh for commercial bars can add an attractive appearance while providing the perfect storage space for even the most upscale wines and alcohol.
To find the best decorative wire mesh for commercial bars, you’ll have to consider the feel of the location and what you want your wire mesh to say about the environment. Ensure whatever you choose stays on-brand with your bar’s image and supports the imagery you want to put forward. Everything from the finish of the wire itself to the type of weave and the space between the wires can contribute to specific tones or decorative styles.
One example of a commercial bar that used our decorative wire mesh was the bar of The Quirk Hotel in Charlottesville, Va. Doug McDonald installed wine cabinets with flat, basket-woven brass wire mesh for a tasteful appearance. He used wire with a brass finish that provided contrast against the surrounding materials and highlighted anything placed around it. It offered an overall elegant look and supported the need to create a focal point.
Custom Wine Bar Cabinetry for Homes
While they usually look a little different than commercial wine bars, wine cabinets are an excellent addition to a home, too. Whether you’re looking to update existing cabinets or add new ones, this type of functional decor can add beauty and sophistication to a space, while offering practical storage, refrigeration and moisture protection for your wines.
Wire mesh for cabinetry can fit into nearly any decorative theme you’re going for and many types of cabinets. From high-end collectors to casual wine-loving homeowners, custom wine storage with wire mesh can add a delightful focal point to any home bar. You need to keep your wine collection somewhere — why not make it as attractive as possible?
Doug McDonald has also installed our wire mesh in residential projects, such as his project that used a hybrid mesh made with stainless steel and brass. This mesh had stainless steel running along the mesh’s warp, with a brass shute. A mesh’s warp runs vertically, while the shute runs horizontally. We sized the mesh to precisely fit the installation, avoiding any excess costs from lost materials in this elegant home project.
Decorative Wire Mesh Designs
There are many different types of decorative wire mesh to suit various decor styles. The wires themselves can be round, flat or square-shaped and come in various colors, such as brass, black, copper, pewter, bronze and more. The spaces between the wires can also come in differing widths and designs. These options make decorative wire mesh incredibly versatile, so you’re sure to find one that fits your decor.
Here are some of the weaves you can find.
- Plain weaves: Plain weave mesh wire works like a basket weave and is the simplest type of weave, with many versatile applications. Wires move over and under each other, creating evenly spaced square or rectangular gaps between them. The shute and warp wires move perpendicular to each other with 90-degree angles, but the weave can take on many appearances, from sets of double wires creating diamond-and-rectangle patterns to round wires with flattened crimps at the intersections. This pattern offers extensive versatility.
- Twilled weaves: A twilled weave features parallel “ribs” that form a diagonal pattern. It provides a more unique, tight-knit weave and sends wires across each other in sets. Twill weaves can get complicated, but a straightforward design could have a shute running over and under two warp wires, with one warp in between that set and the next. Many different twilled weaves combine with other weave types, such as the Dutch weave, to create attractive patterns.
- Filtration weaves: A filtration weave creates an especially tight mesh with tiny openings. These might include Dutch weaves, which feature a larger warp wire than shute wire, or a stranded weave, which builds up the warp and shute wires with multiple strands of wire.
- Crimped weaves: Pre-crimped wires have crimps at the point where the wires nest with each other, creating a pinched appearance at each intersection. These weaves not only offer added strength and rigidity for a piece of mesh, but can also create a more decorative appearance, especially with flattened sections of wire. You can also find intercrimp wire, with added crimps between the crossings.
